02The LetterFounder's Message
A Letter from Our Founder
"I started Global Food Solutions because I believed the food supply chain deserved better intelligence."
When I first entered the food distribution business, I saw an industry operating on instinct and inertia. Billions of dollars in product moving across the country every day, and yet the systems tracking it were decades behind. Temperature logs were still being written on clipboards. Routing decisions were made by habit, not by data. The cold chain — the single most critical factor in food safety — had gaps that nobody was measuring, because nobody had built the infrastructure to measure them. I knew that had to change.
I started Global Food Solutions on Long Island because I saw what most people overlooked: New York City's food infrastructure is one of the largest and most complex systems on earth, and it was being served by companies that treated logistics as an afterthought. From our first truck to our eighty-fifth, every decision we made was guided by a single question: can we make this link in the chain smarter? The Edgewood facility at 131 Heartland Boulevard became our proving ground — the place where we learned that precision in food distribution isn't a luxury, it's the baseline. Every pallet position, every temperature reading, every route calculation had to be engineered, not estimated.
As we grew, we expanded to Hermitage, Pennsylvania, not just for capacity but for reach — to serve the mid-Atlantic and beyond with the same standard we set on Long Island. Today, our fleet covers 48 states. We hold SQF Level 3 certification. We serve school districts, commodity programs, and institutional buyers who cannot afford a single failure. But what I'm most proud of isn't our size. It's the fact that every shipment we send carries the same discipline as the first one. We didn't scale by cutting corners. We scaled by building systems that don't allow them.
The next chapter of GFS is about intelligence — real intelligence, embedded in every link of our supply chain. Predictive routing, real-time cold chain monitoring, data-driven procurement. The food industry is ready for this. The technology exists. What's been missing is a company that understands both the data and the product — that knows a barrel of cheddar and a pallet of frozen vegetables require different handling, different timing, different thinking. That's what we built GFS to do, and that's what we'll keep building toward.
Every shipment we send carries our reputation. Every temperature reading matters. Every customer deserves precision. That's why we built GFS — not just to move food, but to move intelligence alongside it.

10-Second Pitch~25 words
Global Food Solutions is a food supply intelligence company. We distribute and manufacture temperature-controlled food products across 48 states from our facilities in New York and Pennsylvania.
30-Second Pitch~75 words
Global Food Solutions builds intelligent food supply infrastructure. From our headquarters in Edgewood, New York, we operate 14 distribution centers across North America, moving temperature-controlled products from source to shelf for retail, foodservice, and government programs including USDA commodity distribution. Our systems track every shipment in real time — temperature, location, and compliance — maintaining a 99.2% cold chain compliance rate across 2.4 million annual shipments. We don't just move food. We move intelligence.
2-Minute Pitch~250 words
Global Food Solutions was built on one observation: the food supply chain is one of the largest, most complex systems on earth — and one of the least connected. We exist to change that.
Headquartered at 131 Heartland Boulevard in Edgewood, New York, GFS operates as both distributor and manufacturer. We source, process, and deliver temperature-controlled food products — primarily dairy commodities, frozen goods, and shelf-stable items — to customers across 48 states. Our network spans 14 distribution centers, a dedicated fleet, and partnerships with certified co-packers.
What sets us apart is how we think about food supply. Every shipment in our system carries a complete data record: origin, temperature history, compliance status, and delivery confirmation. Our real-time monitoring infrastructure catches anomalies before they become problems. Our pricing systems integrate live CME commodity data with vendor-specific contract terms. Our compliance platform tracks every license, certification, and audit across every facility.
We serve three primary markets: retail and foodservice customers who need reliable cold chain distribution; government programs including USDA commodity purchasing and K-12 school nutrition; and food manufacturers who need raw material sourcing and co-packing coordination.
Our mission is to build the most intelligent food supply infrastructure — connecting producers, products, and people through data, precision, and trust. Under the leadership of CEO Michael Levine, GFS is scaling not by adding trucks, but by adding intelligence to every link in the chain. That's the future of food logistics. And we're building it now.

12The 10 PrinciplesHow GFS Operates
The GFS Way
These aren't rules. They're principles — the operating beliefs that guide every decision, every shipment, and every interaction at Global Food Solutions.
01
"We measure twice, ship once."
Precision over speed. Every order is verified before it leaves the dock. We check weights, counts, temperatures, and destinations — because catching an error at the dock costs minutes, but catching it at delivery costs trust.
In practice: Every outbound pallet gets a three-point verification — item count, weight check, and temperature scan — before it's cleared for loading. No exceptions, regardless of time pressure.
02
"Every degree matters."
The cold chain is sacred. One temperature deviation is one too many. We don't round, we don't estimate, and we don't assume. If the reading says 38.4°F, that's what we report — and what we act on.
In practice: Our 99.2% temperature compliance rate is measured to the tenth of a degree. Every reefer unit is monitored continuously, and any reading above threshold triggers an immediate response — not an end-of-day review.
03
"Data before opinions."
We make decisions with evidence, not assumptions. The numbers tell the story. When two people disagree, we pull the data. When the data is ambiguous, we gather more. Intuition is a starting point, not a conclusion.
In practice: Route optimization is driven by delivery-time analysis and fuel efficiency data, not by "the way we've always done it." Every major routing change is tested against historical performance before full deployment.
04
"The cold chain never sleeps."
Our monitoring runs 24/7/365. No exceptions. No days off. Product doesn't stop needing temperature control on weekends, holidays, or at 3 AM. Neither do our systems.
In practice: Facility temperature monitoring operates around the clock with automated alerts. If a walk-in cooler deviates at 2 AM on Christmas morning, the on-call team gets notified within 60 seconds.
05
"Source to shelf, we own it."
From the moment product enters our facility to the moment it's delivered, it's our responsibility. We don't pass blame upstream or downstream. If it's in our chain, it's on us.
In practice: When a customer reports a quality issue, our first question is never "who else handled it?" — it's "what does our data show?" Full traceability from receiving dock to delivery confirmation, documented and auditable.
06
"Say what happened, then fix it."
When things go wrong, we're transparent first, then relentless about resolution. Hiding a problem is worse than having one. Our customers trust us because we tell the truth, even when it's uncomfortable.
In practice: If a shipment arrives late or with a temperature excursion, the customer hears from us before they have to call. Full incident report within 24 hours. Corrective action plan within 48.
07
"Build for the long haul."
We don't optimize for this quarter. We build systems that last decades. Short-term wins that create long-term debt aren't wins — they're liabilities with a delayed invoice.
In practice: Our technology investments are evaluated on a five-year horizon, not a quarterly ROI. The systems we build today should still be running — and still be relevant — in 2035.
08
"Intelligence in every link."
Every touchpoint in our chain should be smarter than the last. From procurement to delivery, each step should generate data, learn from patterns, and improve over time. A dumb link is a weak link.
In practice: Our receiving process doesn't just check temperatures — it logs them against historical supplier averages. If a vendor's inbound temps trend upward over three deliveries, procurement is alerted before a violation occurs.
09
"Earn trust daily."
Trust isn't a badge. It's earned with every delivery, every reading, every interaction. It's not something we achieved in the past and now possess — it's something we have to prove again tomorrow morning.
In practice: We share delivery confirmation data, temperature logs, and traceability records proactively — not because we're required to, but because transparency is how trust works.
10
"Leave it better."
Every process, every system, every relationship should be better than when we found it. This applies to how we maintain our facilities, how we develop our team, and how we serve our customers. If we touched it, it should be improved.
In practice: Post-delivery debriefs aren't just about what went wrong — they're about what can be better. Even a perfect delivery gets reviewed: was the route optimal? Was the loading sequence efficient? Can we shave 10 minutes? Continuous improvement isn't a program. It's a habit.

14How We Use TheseIntegration Points
Principle Integration Framework
The 10 principles are not wall art. They are operational tools integrated into how GFS hires, reviews, recognizes, and makes decisions.
New Hire Orientation
Every new team member receives the 10 principles on their first day. During the first week, each principle is discussed in context — not as abstract values, but as concrete expectations tied to specific job functions.
New hires are asked to identify which three principles they believe will be most relevant to their role. Their manager reviews the same list independently. The overlap — and the gaps — become the foundation for their first 90-day development plan.
"A new warehouse associate identified 'Every degree matters' and 'We measure twice, ship once' as their two most relevant principles. Their onboarding plan was built around cold chain protocols and outbound verification."
Performance Reviews
Quarterly reviews include a section dedicated to principles. Both the team member and their manager select three principles the individual exemplified during the review period, with specific examples.
This creates a common language for performance that goes beyond metrics. A driver with a perfect on-time rate who also flagged a receiving temperature concern demonstrates both "The cold chain never sleeps" and "Source to shelf, we own it."
"Which principles did you exemplify this quarter? Provide at least one specific example for each."
Recognition Program
Team recognition is tied directly to the principles. When someone is recognized — whether in a team meeting, a Slack shoutout, or a formal award — the recognition explicitly names which principle was demonstrated.
This reinforces the language, makes the principles tangible, and gives team members a framework for what "good" looks like beyond output metrics.
"You demonstrated 'Source to shelf, we own it' when you identified the pallet damage during receiving and initiated the vendor claim before the product was even staged for storage."
Decision-Making Framework
When facing a difficult decision — especially one involving trade-offs between speed and quality, cost and reliability, or short-term and long-term outcomes — the principles provide a decision filter.
Leaders are trained to ask: "Does this align with 'Build for the long haul'?" or "Are we living up to 'Data before opinions'?" This isn't symbolic. It's a practical tool for resolving disagreements and making consistent choices.
"We were debating whether to accept a rush order that would require splitting a delivery route. The question 'Does this align with Build for the long haul?' helped us decide: we'd serve the customer, but invest in route capacity so this doesn't become a recurring trade-off."
The standard: Principles are referenced by name, not by number. When someone says "that's a 'Leave it better' moment," everyone at GFS knows exactly what it means. The language is the culture.
