05Theme Application GuideRules / Variables / Boundaries

Seasonal themes are a controlled layer on top of the base brand. They modify accents and atmospheric elements — but never the structural identity. Here is what changes, what stays the same, and which CSS variables to override.

What NEVER Changes
ElementValueReason
Primary color --cobalt: #092F64 Core brand identity. Non-negotiable.
Logo / wordmark GFS standard Never modified, re-colored, or decorated.
Fonts Inter + IBM Plex Mono Typography is structural, not seasonal.
Layout system Grid, spacing, sections Spatial consistency builds trust.
Topbar structure Height, nav, layout Navigation is muscle memory. Don't break it.
Button styles Size, shape, weight Only accent color may change. Shape stays.
Error colors Red, amber, green semantic Semantic colors are functional, not decorative.
Frosty's globe body Circle + meridians The base mascot is always recognizable. Only accessories change.

Do's and Don'ts
Do
Keep all seasonal themes within the existing GFS color family or approved accent
Use seasonal accents only for campaign cards, accent dots, and background patterns
Let themes auto-expire with a data-season attribute and date-based logic
Test seasonal themes in both light and dark mode before deploying
Keep Frosty's accessories simple — one accessory per season maximum
Include a "disable theme" toggle in user settings
Don't
Change the primary cobalt color for any season
Add warm colors (orange, red) as primary — they conflict with error states
Modify the logo, fonts, or navigation layout
Use seasonal themes on critical paths (checkout, authentication, error pages)
Run more than one seasonal theme simultaneously
Make Frosty unrecognizable with heavy costume changes
Philosophy: Seasonal themes are a festive touch, not a costume change. The brand should be instantly recognizable in any season. If someone can't tell it's GFS at a glance, the theme has gone too far.
06Monthly Color Palettes12 Months / Holiday Accents / Core Brand Anchors
