GFS writes the way it operates — with clarity, precision, and purpose. Every word earns its place. Our voice is consistent across all surfaces: UI, email, proposals, documentation, and internal communications.
Every surface has a formula. Follow the structure, adapt the content.
These words are vague, corporate, or overused. They signal laziness, not intelligence. Replace them with words that actually mean something.
| Banned Word / Phrase | GFS Alternative | Why |
|---|---|---|
| synergy | coordination | Meaningless buzzword. Say what is actually being coordinated. |
| leverage | use | A lever is a tool. "Use" is clearer in every context. |
| circle back | follow up | Circles go nowhere. Follow-ups have direction. |
| low-hanging fruit | quick win | We are a food company. Fruit metaphors about easy work are tone-deaf. |
| move the needle | improve | Which needle? By how much? State the metric instead. |
| deep dive | investigate | We investigate problems. We don't dive into them. |
| ecosystem | network | We build networks. Ecosystems are for nature documentaries. |
| pivot | adjust | Pivots imply panic. Adjustments imply control. |
| bandwidth | capacity | People have capacity. Routers have bandwidth. |
| touch base | check in | We are not playing baseball. Say what you mean. |
| holistic | complete | If you mean complete or comprehensive, say that. |
| scalable | built for growth | Everything claims to be scalable. Show how it grows instead. |
| best-in-class | [cite the metric] | If it is the best, show the number. Otherwise, it is marketing fluff. |
| disrupt | improve | We are not disrupting food. We are making it work better. |
| rock star / ninja / guru | [job title] | Use real job titles. Always. |
| at the end of the day | [delete it] | Filler phrase. Cut it and the sentence gets better. |

Effective May 25, 2026, we are implementing updated procedures for cold storage entry at the Edgewood facility. These changes are based on recommendations from our Q1 safety audit and align with OSHA cold stress prevention guidelines.
1. Buddy System Required. All entries into cold storage (≤ 0°F) require a minimum of two people. Solo entry is no longer permitted under any circumstances.
2. Maximum Continuous Exposure. Time limit reduced from 90 minutes to 60 minutes per entry. A mandatory 10-minute warm-up break is required before re-entry.
3. Entry Log. All cold storage entries must be logged on the digital sign-in tablet at the freezer entrance. Log captures employee name, entry time, and expected exit time.
4. PPE Check. Supervisors will conduct a visual PPE check before each entry. Required: insulated coveralls, insulated gloves, face protection, and steel-toe insulated boots.
